<\/p>\nStarting tomorrow (11\/11) at 3pm, the Iber\u00ea Camargo Foundation will host the Shadows in the Sunlight exhibit, with English translation services provided by Traduzca. The exhibition reflects Iber\u00ea\u2019s relationship with Rio de Janeiro through a quote expressing the artist\u2019s subjectivity: \u201cThere are plenty of shadows in the sunlight\u201d.<\/p>\n
Curators Eduardo Haesbaert and Gustavo Possamai selected around 40 artworks, including paintings, drawings, engravings and documents from the Foundation\u2019s collection, portraying a melancholy Rio. In an interview for R\u00e1dio Ga\u00facha, they discussed the concept of the exhibit:<\/p>\n
\u2013 Based on Iber\u00ea Camargo\u2019s subjectivity, a sunny day can also be somber. This idea permeates the entire exhibit \u2013 explains Possamai, responsible for the Foundation\u2019s collection.<\/p>\n

In addition to the quote that guided the exhibit, the text entitled Memories of Rio de Janeiro, written by Iber\u00ea in 1965, is among the items on display and reflects on the artist\u2019s time living in the city. \u201cI mocked Sugarloaf Mountain, laughed at Guanabara Bay, the creation of an academic God, and searched for my color in the humblest of places, where tourists never go, and that we never see on postcards.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cShadows in the Sunlight\u201d begins with Iber\u00ea\u2019s drawings of the carnival celebrations in Porto Alegre in 1942 \u2013 a symbol ingrained in the culture of Rio de Janeiro \u2013 and ends with the piece entitled Solitude, painted 52 years later, depicting his departure from Porto Alegre and later return to the city. The exhibition also contains documents recording the 1940 conservative attack on an exhibit by Guignard\u2019s Group, of which Iber\u00ea was a member, and the censorship of one of his pieces during the 5th National Modern Art Salon in Rio de Janeiro in 1956.<\/p>\n
Entry to the exhibit is free and will run from Saturday until January 14, 2018, on Saturdays and Sundays from 3pm to 8pm.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
